Since you seem to rely on Windows for some programs at the moment, I'm just wondering if you're planning to use Windows 7 at any point?

If you are, I hope you wait until it gets cheaper. If you have a computer that can handle Vista, then you really don't have to worry about memory so much unless you do really intensive tasks in Vista. And of course, you can always downgrade.

Actually I've trying to switch to Linux. I still use vista to watch DVD's and if I need to do programming in Visual Studio. (Actually I just got C++ to work in eclipse, so I almost don't need VS either). That's about it though. I don't plan on updating to Windows 7 for quite a while. :p

Ah, I can see why someone who's proficient in Visual Studio wouldn't like having to switch.

VLC is great for DVD playback if you ever wanna' try it out. Just fyi, using the libdvdread4 exploit is fine to play encrypted DVDs in the legal sense. It was determined that, based on the effectiveness of DVD encryption, it is legal to circumvent. And since DVD encryption is fairly easy to hack, it's been declared legal in most countries.

However, that might not be the main reason holding you back, I can only speak for myself. :3 There's certainly nothing wrong with using both Windows and Linux from a technical standpoint. I try to practice keeping morals out of the picture and focusing on technical benefits, since I volunteer in the community and do a lot of Linux installs on older hardware.
